Virginity |
|
|
Etymologically speaking the concept of Virginity is associated with all those women who have not had a sexual intercourse with any of the members from the opposite sex. Biologically speaking all those women who have never encountered a sexual encounter are all virgins. Having the hymen intact is only a trivial part of it. For a lady may easily suffer from breakage of hymen if she is actively involved in sports or carries a lifestyle that is very fast. More than biological association, today the word is garbed with a societal meaning imposed ion it in ways more than one. As a result many refer to the first sexual experience of a woman, as losing Virginity. However, with love and emotional dependence ruling over the activity the loss is a gain in more than one way.

The structure of the society plays an important part in deciding the right age for “losing Virginity”. Societies which are more liberal with intermixing between boys and girls being a normal part of socialization girls “lose” their virginity earlier. Greater education and awareness alone can prevent ll kinds of dangers that one associates with. No medical Science or societal Constitution can ever guide as to when is the right time for a woman to shed off her Virginity. Personal choice and societal norms overrule such circumstances. Many cultures across the world still associate Virginity of the female members with family pride.
Society in general and patriarchy in particular have always associated the notion of purity with Virginity. Beginning from Virgin Mary to Queen Elizabeth the Virgin Queen all have been held up high by the society. Although used initially for men, the concept of Virginity has lost its real meaning in the labyrinths of a patriarchal society. Today used largely for women the concept of Virginity has many nuances attached to it. Since every male dominated society accepts women to be under their complete control getting married to a woman who is not a virgin is a major insult. It simply tantamounts to bagging a trophy with a defect. It is obvious that the objectification of women alone have given rise to such practices. Weird practices and norms are still practiced in many parts of the world as a part of preserving the Virginity of a woman. This is one of the many reasons as to why women are always the worst victims after any kind of war or conflict between two warring groups. Harming a woman physically or attacking her Virginity still arouses pervert pleasures in men who consider women to be greatest trophy that a man can ever obtain for himself.
Feminists as well as Physiologists over the world have expressed their concern over the abnormal obsession that people and societies have with Virginity. If the purity of a woman is simply dependent on the intact condition of her womb, nothing can be as shameful! On a more lighter note many older women are also ready to undergo the necessary operations to rebuild their hymen and surprise their husbands. These events alone, point out the amount of brainwashing that a girl undergoes while completing her journey of womanhood!
